# binsider

> Terminal user interface for inspecting ELF binaries. It shows file information and linked shared libraries in the manner of stat and ldd, browses ELF headers, notes, sections, segments, symbols, dynamic symbols and relocations much like readelf, extracts strings with an adjustable minimum length, and offers a searchable hexdump view. Optional dynamic analysis runs the binary and traces its system calls like strace, with a summary of time and call counts per system call; the interface can also be embedded as a Rust library in Ratatui applications.

## Requirements & limits

- Latest release at review: v0.3.2, published 2026-02-01, on crates.io and as prebuilt archives for Linux (x86_64, i686, AArch64, ARM and powerpc64le, with glibc and musl variants), macOS on Intel and Apple silicon, and Windows x86_64. The release workflow enables dynamic analysis only in the x86_64 Linux builds and the AArch64 glibc build. The reviewed main commit is six commits later and adds the --syscall-number, --string-limit and --no-abbrev trace options, which the website documents but no release includes yet.
- Cargo.toml requires Rust 1.88+, although the website's installation pages still give an MSRV of 1.74.1. The dynamic-analysis feature is enabled by default and can be left out with --no-default-features. The website also documents Docker, Nix, Arch Linux and Alpine Linux installation.
- Input is an ELF file chosen by the user. Dynamic analysis executes that binary on the host under ptrace-based tracing, so untrusted samples should only be traced in an isolated environment; the other views read the file without running it.
- Dual-licensed MIT OR Apache-2.0.
