# vgmstream

> Library and tools that decode streamed, prerecorded video game audio in hundreds of formats and codecs, from common game engine files to single-game codecs, including looped music, subsongs, companion files, custom containers and encryption keys. TXTH text descriptors add support for further formats, including raw audio, and TXTP files set per-file options such as forced looping or merging files. It ships as the vgmstream-cli decoder, which converts supported files to WAV, the vgmstream123 player and plugins for Winamp, foobar2000, XMPlay and Audacious, and an online web player is available at vgmstream.org.

- **Prerequisites:** Numbered releases are on GitHub and nightly builds on vgmstream.org; release at review: r2168, published 2026-10-25, and the reviewed master commit dates from 2026-11-05. Users supply the game audio files; doc/FORMATS.md lists the supported formats.
- **License:** An ISC-style permissive license in COPYING, with portions under their own copyright notices.
