ECMO: Peripheral Transplantation to Rehost Embedded Linux Kernels
ECMO transplants peripheral drivers into embedded Linux kernels to boot firmware in QEMU. It evaluated 815 firmware images across 20 kernel versions, 37 device models, and 24 vendors; 710 reached a user-space shell.
Scope and limitations
The evaluation covers embedded Linux firmware across differing SoCs, QEMU kernel rehosting, kernel crash analysis, rootkit forensics, and kernel fuzzing.
Why it fits this collection
It presents a firmware rehosting technique that enables dynamic analysis of embedded Linux systems.
