Awesome Android Reverse Engineering

An awesome list of Android reverse-engineering training, tools and resources started in 2023 by James Stevenson, with 92 one-line entries, 16 of them starred as great and up to date. It covers courses, videos and books; static analysis and deobfuscation, networking and Frida-based instrumentation, decompilers and malware analysis tools; documentation and case studies; CTFs and crackmes; obfuscation and anti-reversing; and a short firmware and kernel section.

Requirements & limits

  • Reviewed at commit 0ade43d (2025-07-08). 51 of 58 commits date from 2023; a March 2025 rewrite reorganized the list and added the obfuscation and firmware sections, and the July 2025 commit removed the Cloud API section while its contents-menu entry remains.
  • Entries give a link and a one-line summary with no license, version or maintenance notes, and some summaries are loose; AFLSmart, for example, is described as a firmware-image fuzzer, while its own README presents an input-structure-aware greybox fuzzer. 8 of 90 unique URLs gave no response, a 404 or a 530: five linked GitHub repositories no longer exist, four of them (the ATDF, Paranoid, libhooker and Android kernel-exploits entries) added in the March 2025 rewrite, and the Houseparty case study, the Flare-On page and AndroidXref did not load.
  • Six entries are the maintainer's own tools and one his blog post. Burp Suite, IDA Pro, JEB and DexGuard are commercial, the Documentation section links the APKMirror and APKPure download sites, and tools for bypassing app controls, dumping memory and kernel exploitation appear as listed.
  • LICENSE is the MIT License (2023, James Stevenson), although the README points to a LICENSE.md that does not exist; placeholder changelog and to-do files from the repository template remain under .github. Linked tools, books and APKs keep their own terms. An independent discovery list.
