Dead Rising 2: Case Zero — an Xbox 360 XBLA static recompilation port
Builds a native Windows, Linux, Steam Deck and Apple Silicon port of the XBLA game Dead Rising 2: Case Zero by statically recompiling its Xbox 360 code with patched XenonRecomp and translating its shaders with patched XenosRecomp. A purpose-built runtime supplies a Vulkan renderer, XMA audio, keyboard/mouse input and online co-op through the author’s XenonLive service. Completion and platform results are project-reported.

Requirements & limits
- Prerequisites: Requires the user’s own XBLA package for title 58410A8D (about 825 MB, no file extension) in assets/package; the first run unpacks it and prepares the 1,367 shaders and the menu and prompt assets locally. No game data is committed or shipped: assets/ and the ppc/ C++ generated from the retail executable are gitignored, and the committed key-cap prompt chips are the project’s own art.
- Prerequisites: Releases need a Vulkan 1.3 GPU with Windows 10+ x86-64, Linux x86-64 with glibc 2.35+, the Steam Deck archive, or macOS 13+ on Apple Silicon; Intel Macs are unsupported, and about 2 GB is needed after unpacking. Source builds need hedge-dev XenonRecomp and XenosRecomp at the base commits in patches/README.md with the 14 and 23 exported patches, a sibling XenonLive checkout at configure time, CMake and Ninja; ppc/ must first be regenerated from config/CaseZero.toml.
- Scope: The README declares the project finished at v1.1.3 (October 2026) and completable solo and in two-player online co-op on Windows and Linux, with a raised level cap, 60 fps, a restored PC options screen and ultrawide support. The Steam Deck and macOS builds are the least tested; the macOS build can freeze after about 15 idle minutes, and streaming pop-in and sign holes remain open. The maintainer has stopped work, so issues may go unanswered.
- Testing evidence: CI builds the host runtime on Linux and Windows and smoke-tests it against a stub image; that run succeeded for the reviewed commit. Playthroughs are maintainer reports. The patch notes say both exported patch sets reproduce the recompiler checkouts used for v1.1.3.
- License: Project code is under PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0, which permits noncommercial use, modification and forks but not sale; XenonRecomp and XenosRecomp are MIT, and Capcom retains the game’s rights. THIRD_PARTY.md says UnleashedRecomp served only as a structural reference, with no GPL code copied. The development journal is committed as CLAUDE.md.
