Destiny 2 build 86657: Sunrise/Dawn reconstruction research report

A dated research report on the Sunrise/Dawn reconstruction of the archived Destiny 2 build 86657 client, which emulates platform sign-on and the examined Bungie service contracts locally and adds reconstructed mission host policy. It records transport, decoding, object creation, presentation and gameplay results separately, and keeps superseded conclusions with their cited sources. It documents the case rather than shipping the runtime implementation or a recovered Bungie backend; playthroughs and native results remain project-reported.

Requirements & limits

  • Prerequisites: Native work needs your own copy of the archived 86657 client and its game packages; the report neither supplies them nor explains how to obtain them. Game binaries, payloads, artwork, the manifest database, credentials, saves, raw captures, the two supplied PDFs and several referenced fixtures and traces are unpublished.
  • Scope: The reviewed edition (21 September 2026) has 20 chapters, 289 source records and hash inventories of 2,832 implementation and 336 lanes-archive files for build 86657.20.08.23.1800.d2_rc.
  • Scope: It runs as a proxy DLL inside the game process; ATTRIBUTION.md credits the separate Dawn project, building on Sunrise and Sundial. Files captured from a modified e801e23e worktree are identified by hash; checking the report needs only Python and two bundled scripts.
  • Testing evidence: Bundled checks cover report assembly, 1,191 local links, citations, evidence hashes and 37 claim references, with no game or native runtime test. Spark live testing, native-world resume and detached camera remain unverified or unimplemented, and the Eater of Worlds slice excludes the barrier and Argos fights.
  • License: No repository-wide license; ATTRIBUTION.md keeps Dawn’s GPL-3.0 text for included excerpts, claims no Bungie endorsement and relicenses no third-party material.
