hardsid4u: reconstructing the HardSID 4U USB protocol
hardsid4u reconstructs the HardSID 4U USB protocol and implements a libusb Python driver for its SID-chip sockets. The investigation combines vendor-binary analysis, USB captures, and hardware probes to document command framing, initialization, register writes, timing, and flow control; a MIDI instrument uses the driver.

Requirements & limits
- Prerequisites: A HardSID 4U device is needed for hardware use; the core driver requires Python 3.9+, libusb1, and libusb.
- Prerequisites: MIDI output additionally uses python-rtmidi and CoreMIDI as documented.
- Limits: The author reports that a stalled device may require a physical power cycle; isochronous mode and SID file playback are unused or absent.
- License: MIT license.
