Hopper Disassembler

Cryptic Apps' commercial disassembler, decompiler and debugger for macOS and Linux, which reads Mach-O (macOS and iOS), PE and ELF executables built for 32- and 64-bit Intel, ARMv6, ARMv7, ARM64 and PowerPC processors. Each procedure can be viewed as assembly, as an interactive control-flow graph that exports to PDF or as C-like pseudocode, with Swift name demangling and extraction of Objective-C selectors and messages, and binaries can be patched through the hex editor, the built-in assembler or Python. Debugging of Mac applications uses LLDB or GDB, Python scripts reach most features, an SDK adds file-format parsers and CPU backends, and Hopper 6 brought a new decompiler and an MCP server for LLM clients.

Requirements & limits

  • Prerequisites: Version at review: 6.6.1, released 2026-10-29. The Mac build is a Universal Binary for Intel and Apple Silicon and requires macOS 12.4 or later; 5.19.6 is the last version for macOS 10.13 to 11. The Linux build needs a 64-bit Intel processor and is tested only on Ubuntu 24.04, Fedora 41 and Arch Linux (DEB, RPM and tar.xz packages). There is no Windows version.
  • License: Commercial, with a per-user Personal License or a hardware-bound Computer License and no restriction on commercial use. Licenses are permanent and include one year of updates; after the update plan lapses, Hopper is limited to the last version released during it, and another year can be bought from within the application.
  • Limits: The free demo has all analysis features but cannot save or export disassembly or modified binaries, disables the debugger backend and limits sessions to 30 minutes.
  • Limits: Hopper cannot read iOS apps taken from an iTunes library, which are encrypted with FairPlay DRM, until the user removes the DRM. Its pseudocode is usually not directly compilable, and the tutorial warns that code wrongly judged unreachable can drop out of it.
