Tool

Voltron

Extensible Python debugger UI toolkit that attaches utility views to LLDB, GDB, VDB and WinDbg/CDB sessions. Each view retrieves data from the debugger host and can run in its own terminal, so users can assemble a custom debugger interface; built-in views cover registers, disassembly, stack, memory, breakpoints and backtrace, and any debugger command can be split off into a view highlighted with a chosen Pygments lexer. The views complement the debugger's command line rather than replace it.

Requirements & limits

  • Prerequisites: Runs on macOS, Linux and Windows; WinDbg/CDB support goes through PyKD and is described as fairly new. The install script fully supports only macOS and Debian derivatives, and the debugger's init file (.lldbinit or .gdbinit) loads Voltron's entry.py. Architecture support differs by debugger: x86 and x86_64 with all four, ARM except with WinDbg, ARM64 only with LLDB and PowerPC only with GDB.
  • Scope: The newest release is the v0.1.8 pre-release of 2025-01-30, following v0.1.7 from 2016; the reviewed master commit is from the same day as v0.1.8.
  • License: MIT per LICENSE.
